These photographs from ‘Colossal Youth’ by Andreas Weinand take me back to my youth, the late 1980’s when we weren’t all connected up, caught in a digital network in which everything was liked, shared, poked and caught on camera phone, a time in modern cultural and political history that was in flux, when music, art, literature and theatre were breaking all the rules, were finding a new expression.

The first photograph that I saw by Andreas Weinand, which must have been fifteen years ago now, depicted depraved looking young people at some sort of heavy metal party. It had been taken on a Christmas Eve in the late 1980s.
